Slievemoughanmore walk
« on: 21:18:20, 26/08/18 »
Having focused on the eastern and central Mournes on previous walks, I decided to venture to the western Mournes this week-end. I parked my car at the small car park at the foot of Hen mountain. I didn't want a circular walk on this occasion so decided to take in Slievemoughanmore only. Slievemoughanmore is my second favourite peak in the west after Eagle mountain. I picked up an estate-type track after leaving the car park which eventually peters out to a foot trail as I walked towards the Mourne wall. After gaining the wall, I turned right and made my way to the summit. The highlight of the view is the aerial panorama of the rocky river valley just walked. I descended in the direction of wee Slievemoughan, a subsidiary summit of Slievemoughanmore. Turning right I picked up the good track again back to the car park. Total distance was 10km taking 2.5 hours.
