Online shops
« on: 12:24:25, 28/03/08 »
Can anyone suggest some good online shops for hiking gear? I'm looking around for a new waterproof coat and a lightweight 1-man tent. Another thing is food! I'm walking the Ridgeway at the end of may, and I need some decent grub to keep me going, at a pace of 20-25 miles per day!

Thanks everyone.

good luck with the ridgeway done it myselfe many years ago and grims ditch is apptly named at the end of a days walk. their are plenty of pubs on route which we managed to use for grub think we only cooked one night.
I have some Keela kit and find it very good ( but then i didn't pay for it) looking at the web site it seems well priced for the quality.

Wayfayrer meals are great - keep hunger at bay and are fairly lightweight (not in tins but thick plastic bags - really tasty too!).

For a lightweight jacket, the Berghaus RG1 Waterproof Jacket everytime, and for around £60 it's a bargain!  The ultimate lightweight good value for money, walking jacket by far?!

Let us know how it goes anyway, with reviews etc...

Most of the main retailers have their own websites and sell online (Field and Trek, Cotswold Outdoor, Blacks, Millets etc).

For lightweight gear I've used the following in the past:

http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/

The service from them has always been excellent.

Hmm ones I tend to use:

http://walkhigh.co.uk/

http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/

http://www.outdoormania.co.uk/Default.aspx

Plus local stores like castle mountain and moor, and ofcourse yeomans.

Bizzares ones to look at from time to time are TK Max and even Aldi. These places sometime get stuff they don't know the true value of.
