Title: Fitting Svalbard 1 footprint.
Post by: brendan on 18:54:50, 13/09/20
Hi, just got the Svalbard 1 tent and footprint. Not at all experienced in hiking - I'm 70 and decided to have a go at wild camping at long long last.  Managed to put tent up but there's no instructions at all for attaching the Svalbard footprint. There's no video I can find that actually shows you. Presumably the pegs go through the tent looks and through the footprint's but the footprint doesn't appear to have loops! No doubt it's all very obvious but sadly not to me. Contacted Svalbard but alas no response. Any help GREATLY appreciated!

Don't you just put the footprint on the ground and pitch on top of it?  That is what we did in the good old days when a footprint was still called a groundsheet.

That's what I do, I lay my footprint down, place the inner tent on top, put pegs through the brass tent and footprint holes, done!

The German presenter has rather too much to say for himself, but skip to 7 minutes.

The retailer you bought if from may also be able to help?

Unless the design has changed your footprint should look like this with the 7 straps and there must be a simple way of adjusting what look to be buckles on the straps to provide pegging points or to connect it to the tent?

EDIT

I found this which looks to be a slightly different version. https://www.doorout.com/nordisk-svalbard-1-footprint-zeltunterlage-schwarz.html (https://www.doorout.com/nordisk-svalbard-1-footprint-zeltunterlage-schwarz.html)

It looks like it possibly has no straps but does have what look to be female buckle clips which I assume are intended to clip to the male buckle straps on the tent?

... but the footprint doesn't appear to have loops!

Missed this. The footprint SHOULD have loops. I suggest that you contact your supplier for a replacement in the first instance.

Many thanks. Yes indeed I've mentioned this before. My problem is the footprint should be the same shape as the bottom of the tent. Therefore the loops, holes etc only need be on the edge of the footprint so the straps seems only to confuse. Perhaps they are  - but couldn't get anything to line up in my mums garden - there's sorts of "loops" but what's the point of the long straps. My main problem is to find somewhere to practice pitching - difficult in a town in these parlous times and my mum's hours away..
Already seen the manic German - very teutonic and crazy abd given to mad-eyed laughter - the bit where the footprint is added is at a distance and I don't speak German.
Definitely making me feel very much an amateur and not a very bright one at that!
Hopefully things will become clearer when I'm on the side of a mountain, in a blizzard, phone packed up , hyperthermia setting in and darkness descending.
Will let you helpful guys know when I've cracked it.
Will get in touch with Nordisk - thanks Kinky for the info.

Chatted with Nordisk who tells me that the peg goes through what could be called an extendable loop on the footprint. Don't think it's a good design for a footprint custom made for the Svalbard 1 - however the chap at Nordisk was very friendly and helpful. Hopefully next go at pitching all everything will suddenly come into line.
By the way I wanted to send a close up photo of the strap but couldn't find a way to upload it to the forum - is it possible to do this?
