I'm thinking of getting another pair of boots - am wondering about Altbergs but have never seen anywhere I can try them on. Any ideas of outlets that stock them to work out whether they suit me before I start stalking the web for a cheap pair?

Find your local stockists here http://www.altberg.co.uk/stockists/

Look for the Premier Retailers with the Red Flags on the map as they should carry a larger range and have better measuring and fitting facilities available.

People are given them for their job role.
Armed forces did/do dish them out along with certain roles in police forces etc. Probably others.
They might be due a new pair after a period of time and there is nothing wrong with their current ones so sell them on. Or leave their role and take what they can etc.
I wear them in my job role but for some reason never thought about wearing them out hiking etc.
Thanks Dan1902 for the explanation. I shall give them a try  O0  My current Brashers have given me very good service but no longer made.
Regards Keith

Gave my new Alt-Bergs a run out, 2 15 mile walks through the snow, second walk was through wet, slushy snow. The boots were very comfortable, good fit and waterproof. Also bought some Leder-Grese, which i applied today. Not too sure if the boots needed it, but what the hell. Look after your gear and your gear will look after you! All in all Im very happy. A pair of leather winter walking boots for £65; a bargain.

and, if similar to my old ones, the new version is a completely different animal - shape/fit/quality of leather/lace hooks(locking hook is useless), even insoles all different and IMHO poorer.
So many paths yet to walk, so little time left

Maybe this is the reason https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/royal-marine-sold-commando-boots-1328904 why there are so many Altberg boots for sale second hand on Ebay  :o

Altberg Fremington Ladies 2/3 Season Boots Size 5½ Extra Wide Fit @ £30 listed as unworn (Southville, Bristol area). Current RRP for these is £164.99

These have been relisted with  the price reduced to £25 - that's a cracking bargain for anyone within travelling distance of Southville, Bristol.

My local Aldi (Havant) has down sleeping bags for £29.99 down from £39.99!

No temperature rating, but green mummy with full length two way zip and a claimed weight of 950g. I took one out to inspect it, and found it impossible to get back into its stuff sack - the down was that springy!

Sorely tempted - but I've enough sleeping bags already, and it's not particularly light.

Other branches may have them as well.

That's good too. Tesco used to do a good deal on a double pack but that's no longer available it seems.
