Ramsbottom & Holcombe Moor

I wanted a nice short walk not too far from home yesterday to make sure I could make the most of the good weather and still get back in time to watch England. After looking at a few maps I decided to drive up to Ramsbottom parking up in one of the many free car parks in the side streets opposite the train station (the stations free car park if used for a car boot sale on Sundays). The walk consisted of a gentle up hill walk mainly along public footpaths to Peel Tower with great view of Manchester and beyond on such a clear day. From the tower we headed over Harcles Hill and onto Pilgrims Cross before heading down through Buckden Wood to Stubbins and the back across the fields and footpaths alongside the River Irwell to the station. It was a nice easy walk of around 11km in pleasant surroundings made even better by the glorious weather.

Cool. I assume that's Peel Tower in the pic. Looks impressive.

Did the very same walk a few years back on a good sunny day. As you say good views of Manchester and beyond. Good stuff

Yes it was good
. I'll have to do it again when I have more time to head over to Bull Hill and maybe catch the steam train from that great little station
