Tryfan Heather Terrace
« on: 19:33:01, 29/01/18 »
Hi all,

Just a quick one, I fancy doing Tryfan and the Gliders in the coming weeks, but I'm not too keen on scrambling the north Face at this time of year, how difficult is the Heather Terrace footpath?

Or would a better option be starting from the south of the Gliders?

Thanks

Tom

It’s not difficult, quite straitforward actually, although the path isn’t always as defined as it looks from the A5, so in mist it’s not difficult to temporarily lose it. Whatever you choose it’s a fine walk including the Glyders.
Touching from a distance, further all the time.

Try an ascent of Tryfan, from above llyn Bochlwyd, following  the miners path.

Heather terrace will involve some scrambling, nothing very technical, but if all you want to do is gain the summit of Tryfan, there are easier options available.

Once you reach the wall and style at Bwlch Tryfan, there is a very easy path that takes you to the summit of the mountain off to your left.

This route up Tryfan is by far the safest and quickest way to the summit, and involves virtually no scrambling at all.

If you managed to watch Iolo Williams recent first episode on Snowdonia, he tackled The Gribyn ridge, above llyn Bochlwyd.

This route involves a bit of scrambling to gain the main Glyder plateau, but its never difficult, and the views are magnificent.

I had considered this route, doing the Glyders first, finishing on Tryfan before heading back towards the car.

Thanks for the heads up, definitely a consideration.

There's a good footpath that goes up the opposite side of Tryfan to the Heather Terrace (would that be the west side?). It's the way everyone walks down after whichever route they've done. It's a walk apart from the last little bit which gets just a bit scrambley up to the top. Starts from one of the laybys on the A5. Sorry not got the map handy so this is from memory.
