A winter climb on The Magillycuddy Reeks
« on: 11:43:01, 29/01/15 »
:D  I went with Frank to climb Carrauntoohil last Saturday. The weather was really good and the heavy rain of the previous day had stripped most of the snow from the mountains. We were going to have a look at Curved Gully on Carrauntoohil which offers a really nice easy Grade1 winter route but as we drove to the start my eye was drawn to another gully on Benkeeragh which looked good. We opted for that one which proved to be a good choice. The full story here...http://howlingmist.blogspot.ie/
As an aside we were really surprised to see people on the summit without anything in the way of winter equipment. Some were even in trainers. Three people had to be rescued later in the afternoon as the got trapped on steep ground without proper footwear etc. Common sense is unfortunately not that common. :-\
