I think that I would go the long way round at Jacob's Ladder, easier descending rather than down the steps.

You're a better man than me, I would be in Byrness having my boots cleaned by Colin!

He might be disqualifed if he did that without good reason. Not being able to walk down steps without being in severe pain isn't a good enough reason. ;)
PS:The speed the tracker moved it looked like he jumped down Jacob's Ladder!

Not that I have ever done it as I have been going S>N and full of energy at the bottom of Jacob's Ladder but always thought it was an acceptable alternative but not shown on the OS map so obviously not however John did at Malham without penalty.

Same here, if it was my third evening I’d currently be sitting in a pub in Bellingham enjoying a relaxing meal!

He’s within touching distance now. Amazing that the record stood for 31 years and then it’s broken twice in the space of a little over a week!

Edit - He finished while I was typing, well done!

John Kelly    62 hours 46 minutes 23 seconds
Damian Hall  61 hours 40 minutes 37 seconds
AMAZING!

I think John Kelly's time was 64 hours 46 minutes, so Damian Hall was actually 3 hours ahead of him.I wonder if we'll be dot watching again soon?

On a different note, we were wondering if there should be two different records, one for North South and one for going South to North. Presumably people have a reason for choosing one over the other, and I was wondering how much difference there was in terms of the challenge.

Just seen some video of him finishing on the Montane Spine Race website. He doesn’t even look particularly knackered!

N-S seems to be more popular for record attempts and has led to greater success when it comes to knocking larger amounts of time off the record.I don't think there is much difference in elevation but going N-S you miss out some of the brutal climbs such as the one to Colden from the Todmoden road,Penyghent from the steep side,Knock Old Man and the climb out of Bryness.Going N-S the climbs tend to be less steep.

Crikey, well done Damian, just watched the vid of him finishing too. I wonder if this record will stand for over 30 years like Mike Hartley's did?
