This photo from my walk on Saturday comes with a bit of a story / speculation for any Lord of the Rings fans out there:
This is Moira furnace, or at least the remains of it in the middle of the mining village of Moira Derbyshire.
While theres no mention of any link with the Mines of Moria from LOTR in the visitors centre at all or anywhere else I can find, it is on the direct route Tolkien would have travelled from his home at Sarehole Mill to Breedon on the Hill (another sort of LOTR name there) while he was researching Beowulf which was written by the local Abbot there.
I dont think it too much of a jump of imagination to say this is more than likely to be part of the inspiration for one of my favorite works of literature.
