TR Geltsdale from Jockey Shield Sun 15 Mar 20
« on: 19:00:46, 17/03/20 »
The weather wasn't great in the Lake District on Sunday so we did a local walk. We parked in Castle Carrock to walk around the reservoir. It was very muddy!

Castle Carrock Reservoir

The walk is only 2.25 miles so as we walked I thought about where we could go next. Back at the car a short drive up the road to the Jockey Shield layby where we had our lunch in the car.

Talkin Fell from Jockey Shield

The wind wasn't that bad here, we'd expected it to be really strong so we did our 2nd walk from here. We descended to Low Hynam Bridge and turned left and climbed uphill on the footpath to join the access road that leads to The Greens and Talkin Fell if you want to climb it. We didn't want to climb the fell today  :D

The old farm machinery caught my eye

Nicer views than the last time I was here on New Years Day.

Lots of mud near The Greens

There was about a mile of mud to plodge through before we got to a dry bit.

The view as we descended to High Hynam

The wind was really bad here, we couldn't understand it as we were lower down and the higher path had been quite sheltered. It blasted in our faces for about 15 minutes until we got closer to the river.

The Jockey Shield walk was 3.25 miles with 340m ascent. The route was Jockey Shield - Low Hynam - The Greens - High Hynam - Jockey Shield. It was too early to go home so we had a drive about and we ended up at Banks Signal Station car park on Hadrian's Wall. It was really windy here.

I quickly took this shot of the view with the Tindale Fells at the rear

The weather is looking better for this weekend so we are going to make the most of it before we are all confined to barracks  ;)

Nice photos, April. I like Castle Carrock and the surrounding countryside.

..unfortunately I will probably not be going to "Music on the Marr" in July, because of you-know-what.
