Mini TR Dodd Wood walk Sat 3 Oct 20
« on: 19:10:43, 06/10/20 »
Too wet for camping, we were out for day walks. Too wet also for too many photos as it rained most of the time. We parked at the Sandbed Gill car park and followed the yellow trail, then joined the red and green trail for a while before leaving both to carry on up the forest road to Long Doors where we sat and had some lunch under the storm shelter.

In the Rabbit Warren on the yellow waymarked path

Squeaky with stick

Squeaky enjoyed chasing a few sticks but she wasn't that keen on the rain.

From Long Doors we joined the green path back to the Old Sawmill and from there we followed the yellow path back to the car.

Fungi in the forest

The rain got heavier and it rained for the rest of the day and night, we were pleased we weren't out in it all night. Our walk was 4.5 miles with 405m ascent

Back to the Lakes. :)
Dodd is good for a wet day, you can hide under the trees.

I see Dodd wood, I click!

Love the toadstool pic, very autumnal indeed.

Have a particular happy memory of doing a route up Longside Edge (from the same carpark) in high winds and low cloud, absolutely no visibility all the way up, passed several groups of similarly hardly walkers hoping it would clear but no joy... that was until later that day, by now most of the way down Calf Side, Dodd Wood appeared in front of me out of the mist, clad in beautiful sunshine, and the rest of the day was a total about-turn from the morning slog - instead becoming a lovely stroll to Dodd and then through the woods, gurgling streams the lovely accompaniment on the way back to the car.

Indeed, forests are always a good option when it is raining  :)

:)  Over Ullock Pike and Long Side is a great way up Skiddaw too. We have done the route you mention numerous times. It is a lovely route and we always try to have a break at White Stones to take in the view....if there is one!

Lovely mini trip report April.

Woodland walks are always a good choice when the weather's a bit iffy.
