My 10 years-old overtrousers were no longer doing their job, and for me the replacement had to be olive colour or similar, I do not want black ones which are commonly available.

After searching high and low on the net I bought a pair of Champion 'Typhoon' waterproof overtrousers which are the colour I want, allegedly breathable (I haven't used them in any serious rain yet) and they were only £9.95 (plus rather overpriced p&p).

They are pleasingly lightweight, only 205g plus a 15g bag, a good fit for my waist and legs and they have slits for access to trouser pockets (but no fly). The zips are long enough to get them on and off over my boots, something I was a bit anxious about before they arrived because I once had some cheap Regatta ones whose zips were too short.

If I get just a year's use out of them I shall be satisfied for that price.

The only thing that has ruffled my feathers is that the country clothing seller has since emailed me every week asking me to review my purchase, for which they're not getting one.

I've been eyeing a new pair of Salomon boots. How would you rate the quality and fit to previous Salomons?

Hope it is better material than the old khaki canvas one I used to carry my flask and bait (sarnies ) to work over 50 years ago.

My son bought me one made in the old way two years ago when he remembered it. Never thought of using it for that purpose. But you've got me thinking.Bit of waterproofing needed though. Hopefully not on yours.
Too little, too late, too bad......

LoL.  I have one in the garage, with my resperator and dog tags still in it.  Must be 29 years since I last used it.

The Naturehike Star River 2, I ordered off ebay, arrived yesterday. It's a quite impressive tent for 50 quid brand new. A bit on the heavy side, I should think, for backpacking at 2.2 kg; but it's the version where the outer comes down to the ground. The build quality looks good and it's massive for a 2 man tent and palatial for a 1 man tent. 2 doorways, 7' by 4'3"w by 3'6"h. A lot of mesh above about 1ft from the floor, so I might decide to get some inner tent material and the needle and cotton out but I'll see how it's like as it is first. Roll on Spring!

Last purchase was a Rab SilPoncho. Utilising 15% off (YHA membership) at cotswold outdoors = £59.50. Not used it yet...

Bought a silicone toothbrush head cover to replace a toothbrush case, with a view to shaving a few more grams off the pack weight. Do I get the prize for the cheapest item on here??
It's simple - one foot in front of the other.
