Just saying Hello to all, returning member, not been on for a while. Iv’e been getting out and about again and realised I’m not as fit as I used to be... ;D  but i’m no quitter....

After a beating from rain and wind when halfway through a circular walk in the Glenmore area last Saturday. Monday had me on a circular walk from Kingussie with Creag Bheag as the high point and in the afternoon a circular over Creag Far leitire in much improved weather conditions. A circuit of the paths, on the following day, West of the river Feshie between Mill Cottage and Ballintean and finishing on Wednesday with the Pillar on the top of Torr Alvie.
Good time for seeing birds....Geese feeding on the grass in fields, Herons perched on nests on top of swaying Noble Firs and with the sight and sounds of the ground nesting spring visitors from the coast.... Lapwings, Oyster catchers and of course Curlews.

Had a good days walking along Ullock Pike, Long Side, Carl Side, Skiddaw, down to Bakestall and Dash Falls.
This one’s from Long Side looking down towards Keswick and Derwentwater.

Great weekend all, hope you’ve maybe got a walk planned too.

Lake District / TR - Above Wastwater and Miterdale - March 15th 2024
« Last post by Percy on Today at 08:31:44 »
A bit late in posting this one but here goes. My stepson had talked me into paying half towards a 4 berth room at Black Sail Hut on Saturday 16th March. He and a friend planned to wild camp somewhere above Mosedale on the Friday night and meet me at the hostel Saturday evening. I decided to make a weekend of it so took Friday off work and booked myself into the Wasdale Inn.

I drove up on Friday to do a circuit of the fells above Wastwater returning along Miterdale.

I took the lane beside the school at Eskdale Green to the Forestry England parking area just beyond a gate. I was the only one parked there and it proved to be a very quiet walk.

I set off through the Miterdale Forest, this proved to the driest part of the walk but it was still pretty wet. It was in the trees that I met a party of 7-8 descending from Irton Fell, I didn’t see another soul all day.

Overhead power cables in the plantation.

Looking over to Great Bank in the Miterdale Forest

After emerging from the plantation it was a squelchy slog most of the way although there weren’t any really bad bits where I thought I might end up with wet feet. The worst section was along the wall just after turning right at Irton Fell and heading towards Whin Rigg

Looking towards the coast, Sellafield barely visible in the murk

Into the clagg just below 400m. This is the 395m spot height on OS maps halfway between Irton Fell and Whin Rigg.

Looking down into Greathall Gill just below Whin Rigg summit.

I went a walk in the Low Weald of Sussex today, from Isfield to Upper Wellingham via picturesque Barcombe Mills on the river Ouse. A very pretty walk in gently undulating countryside, with a profusion of bluebells and wild garlic. A beautiful spring day.

We had a pretty disappointing week in the Lakes last week due to almost continuous rain. This was compounded when my normal "wide angle" lens died on me. I did, however, have an old 50mm lens in my bag so I decided to experiment a bit by taking a number of different shots and trying to stitch them together with a basic photo stitching application (Autostitch which can be downloaded free from the web). I honestly expected this to be a complete waste of time but was pleasantly surprised with the results including this shot of Coppermines Valley. Not the best shot I have ever taken but an interesting experiment nonetheless.
