Hiking for Fun and Profit - Almost
« on: 13:51:29, 14/12/18 »
I was struggling up a steep, slippery wooded hill this morning so my eyes were very much on the ground..  Partly hidden under the leaves and mud I spotted a Samsung A3 mobile phone that had obviously been there for a while.  I picked it up and found a soggy £140 tucked into the case.  More in hope than expectation, I took it home and dried it out and was surprised to find that it still worked and moreover, had enough power left in it to flash it up.  A quick skim through the contacts list found the owners home phone so I called them and he is coming to pick it up - shame really, the cash would have been nice for Christmas but my mum brought me up to be honest!

Well done for being honest. They might give you a reward, a bunch of flowers or a box of chocs would be nice.  :D

What a smashing story. It cheers me up no end when I read about things like this.

The phone and cash are reunited with their owner. Turns out it was a local keeper. Probably needed the cash more than I did but the phone was the main thing. It was full of pictures and important numbers. Gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.

That happened to me once about 7 years ago, I found a Nokia phone (no money though) in the grass in a lay-by on the Isle of Wight. It taught me one very important thing as I scrolled though the phone trying to make contact with the owner. Never leave loads of sexy messages, suggesting to the receiver what you would like to do to him! I found the owner, phoned her, waited and she drove to me to collect it. We had a bit of a chat, but she then left because she had to get back to teaching her class of children.

The only time I have found money was about three years ago in the middle of a local busy road near to our University, £30 in a wallet plus 3 photos. It looked like Mum, Dad and a young brother. When I took it to our local Southsea police station the desk Sargeant just said to me, "happens all the time mate, all the time!"

Last year found a smartphone on my street. Found a contact for "mum", dropped it off at a local house next day. My reward was "Thanks"  ;D

I think that the vast majority of people are honest. When I lost my phone on the London Underground it had been handed in and my home phoned before I even realised it was missing.
I've told before about finding a viola for which I refused a financial reward but did accept 2 very good bottles of red wine.

I found a wallet, went to the address on the Drivers License which was less than a mile away that was a farm and the Gentleman farmer gave me £20.. He got his cards back..
Gone for a walk, back in a bit..
