Red Funnel is offering a 25% discount on Red Jet Hi-Speed foot passenger travel to all registered participants of Walk the Wight – the largest sponsored walk in the south, taking place on the Isle of Wight on 17 May 2009.
Walk the Wight is a charity event held in aid of Earl Mountbatten Hospice. The hospice is the only one the Island and provides care for over 800 patients facing life-threatening conditions every year. Last year Walk the Wight raised over £350,000 towards helping the centre continue to provide its valuable support.
The Isle of Wight is a walker’s heaven and is reputed to have more footpaths per square-mile than any other English county. Entrants are challenged to complete a marathon 26.5-mile sponsored walk from Bembridge to Alum Bay taking in some of the best sights the Island has to offer along the way. Walkers will enjoy a stunning variety of landscapes, and the abundance of flora and fauna that attract so many nature lovers to the Island each year. If the 26.5 miles sounds too strenuous, walkers can choose to start or end the walk at the mid-point of Carisbrooke or take the eight-mile Flat Walk, ideal for families with pushchairs and wheelchair users.

Walk the Wight is part of the Walking Festival, which runs from 9 to 24 May. There are also family favourites such as the “Ghost Walk” around the old village and parks of Shanklin with stories of ghosts, smugglers and buried treasure galore. Equally exciting is the “Dinosaur Walk” which takes in the local beaches with an expert guide in search of dinosaur footprints and fossilised forests.
