TR - Pillar Rock & the Mosedale Horseshoe
« on: 13:22:29, 27/05/19 »
Catching up on our activities over the Easter weekend. Fortunately a super early start from Leeds meant we didn't get stuck in any traffic and we barely saw anyone all day!

Fantastic day, perfect conditions for it.
Slab and Notch, I remember it well if only for the deception at the start: standing on the starting ledge, it initially belies the position of the route, looking like an easy unremarkable spot, but after just a few metres climb... yikes, that drop - bldy hell!!  :o

Sounds as if you had an excellent day on the hill! Lovely photos, and I fancy that high level route behind Pillar.

Great photos, looks to have been an excellent day.
Had to abseil off an unfinished route to take up front position on a stretcher for a very rapid run down into the head of Ennerdale, so that ledge had an eery sense of familiarity, even after 50 or so years.

You'll enjoy it; it's much like the traverse on Bowfell but longer with the added interest of the finish next to Pillar Rock

Thanks! This was our fourth attempt at finding a decent day. As they say, good things come to those who wait

I imagine doing the route in less-than-optimal conditions would be 'interesting'.

That looks a fantastic day out - though the roping is beyond my comfort zone - I just love Pillar - it's a wonderful place and is generally quiet whenever I've walked in the area.
