For the first time in three weeks, the Mournes were blessed with glorious sunshine instead of thick cloud this week-end. As a general principle, I always take in one of the seven sevens in such conditions. Yesterday, was Lamagan's turn. Starting from Carrick Little I left the car park at 945am and headed up the minor road to a gate which gave access to the mountains. I followed a good track to Ben Crom reservoir before turning right up Lamagan's steep side. The good track peters out to a foot trail. It took nearly two hours to reach the summit from the car park. I did the walk in this direction to capture the view towards Donard and Commedagh, Northern Ireland's highest summits, head on upon arrival at the summit. I was able to count 28 mountains from Lamagan. I also took in the neighboring summit of Upper Cove; more on that in a second report.
