Saturday's walk saw me take in three of the lower peaks in the central Mournes. The day was fairly overcast with little sunshine. Starting from Ott car park I followed a good track to begin with before branching off the beaten track to the summit of Ott. A brief rain shower made me get the rab bergen out of the rucksack. After admiring the views of Spelga, I headed towards Carn, the second summit of the day. Cloud covered Binnian, Commedagh and Donard but elsewhere the views were fairly good. Following the course of the Mourne wall I headed towards a stile at the colony Carn shares with Slieveloughshannagh. Upon reaching the stile I turned right to walk around Slievelougshannagh to gain a glimpse of Lough Shannagh. Following a circular route I headed towards the Mourne wall before ascending Slieveloughshannagh from the Meelbeg side. Unfortunately cloud thickened reducing visibility to a few metres. What Haystacks was to Wainwright, what Everest was to Mallory is what Slieveloughshannagh is to me. The double lake panorama of Lough Shannagh and Silent Valley is my favourite view in the Mournes. After reaching the stile upon the descent I made the short trip back to the car park. Total distance was nearly 5 miles.
