Petrol to be rationed
« on: 07:24:44, 01/04/20 »
Just heard Government is to get Army to take over petrol distribution, petrol points to be set up where vehicles can be fully disinfected to help stop spread of virus and petrol will be rationed, thankfully just topped up my car.

If this is true, people like me who are having to travel to take food to relatives are going to struggle even more  :(

Searching for 'petrol rationing' brings up no relevant results.

Whether it's true, false or a poor attempt at an April Fool's joke, I think it's irresponsible to announce such things at this time.

I cannot find any mention of this anywhere April - hopefully it's not true.  We have same issue here with my in-laws, though they are only about 35 miles away rather than the other side of the country.

There is a story running from the Petrol Retailers Association that some garages, especially rural ones, are not selling enough petrol and may have to shut. Can find nothing on an Army take over and doubt they have the resources to do it except in a limited fashion.

There is a glut of oil at present. Demand has collapsed and Russia and the Saudis - the two biggest suppliers -are at each others' throats.  Price has gone from $65 to $23.  Drillers are saying they may have to cap wells because storage capacity is overflowing (hopefully not literally).  There may be downstream refining / distribution / staffing of garage issues but my guess is that this is fake news / April fool joke.

Rationed? If that was the case they wouldn't be selling it at 2002 prices. ;D

It rang a chord with me.  During my last but 2 tour, I was in charge of planning the requisitioning of filling stations during the tanker drivers' strike to ensure fuel got to the right people.  We got within days of doing it too!
