you watched the film at the pictures with Clint Eastwood as Leg of Leads and Angelina Jolie as Let me out of here seen the TV series now read the account of 8 desperadoes who escaped from Dartmoor prison
Featuring Leg o leads, Let me out of Here, Harris, Jellybelly, Beefy, Glyders, Cotswold stroller and Catbells.
This is there story of adventure pain and freedom and the long walk home
It was a long time that leg o leads spent his days dreaming of an escape and with his partner in crime LMOOH they planned an escape from Dartmoor and freedom.so they hatched a plan to make a break for it. As the plan grew others wanted to break for it finally a date was set
Now equipped to spend a night out they all met up and agreed to go for it. Off they set and after five minutes Cotswold Stroller wanted to call in the Dartmoor Brewery but being a team player he headed off up to North Hessary Tor. Would the weather help? we came to the TV mast and knew we were on the right path it reached high to the sky
legs wanted to test the wire strength and pushed it. " whos that ediot down there stoppit" there were two TV repair men up the tower
we came to the Tor
this was the escapees
From here we headed to the road and LMOOH said we should "stay off the roads and keep to moors" in the distant we heard a deafening Howl
was this the Beast of dartmoor or the hounds of the Baskervilles
Up the path to Great Mis Tor . knowing our freedom was all we wanted we had no fear and kept going
Glyders kept watch and told us to watch what we did
We arrived at the Tor and took 5 as we needed to keep our stamina up
On top of Great Mis tor Harris and leg o leads
are we lost yet?
time was pressing so Harris took charge and off we went to get to the river crossing. a long trek but we were fortunate to meet old Dick Turpin who was the only escapee from Dartmoor in 1948 This was all we found but he still kept a look out and had a big gob
Harris got us to the river
Harris showed how to cross the river whereas beefy
some of crossed it with ease but others waited to find a bridge
LMOOH was worried we may never make it out of there but at the back she made sure no one was left behind
follow that river " what down there er i will stick to the path thanks"
was LMOOH doing drugs ??
In the Mist we lost our track when Cotswold stroller said follow me i can smell my way out of here and we headed off to some tor ( even i was lost ) was it the whiskey he could smell
The search was on the howls were getting louder when Stroller took a short cut to put off any pursuers so across the worlds deepest longest smelliest bog he went. we had no choice but to follow. after hours we came to civilisation and the old chimney that marked our way.
.
I thought you said this was the YHA we were stopping at
along the gravel path towards the Ye old Pottery. in the evening gloom a dim light shone out and being brave Stroller knew the Old witch would try and tempt us in with goodies we wanted. In he went and told us it was okay so after a couple of Hot chocolates and morale raised it was off. We went along the road and into the deep Bellever forest we headed to find shelter and the secluded campsite we could spend the night. Cold wet and tired we started to set up camp. tents up and food cooking we were in good spirits. Stroller climbed into his tent and soon snored his way into sweet dreams of the night. darkness fell and morale started to dip wih the temperature when in the gloom all you could hear was
" i have had enough i cant get me boot off" In the darkness i went to see and found 1 boot sticking out of the tent wiggling and a voice saying "help me" so we got that boot off
this was the view i had a great spot for a wildcamp well done Legs and LMOOH
A cold morning and camp need to taken down
This was the only bridge out there
In the cold morning the cold bit hard as we went to Bellever Tor
Bellever tor Trig point and the team and the sunday view
we made our way to the river and took 5 to have a break and keep spirits up
ahead lay the difficult river crossing on the bridge. Disaster the floods had taken it out
so we had to cross the slippery stones of DEATH
Along the Bog Swamp to find our crossing
The slippery stones of death would someone fall in and drown
the view from the middle and the other side
Danger was everywhere but someone still had time to play
all across we headed to the Less scary stones of death. Stroller took the lead " come on its safe
Beefy did it with his eye shut
a queue formed it was that easy
then someone lost his bottle
we made our way to Hexworthy road and took a first aid stop. Ponies if we could catch them we can ride our way to freedom
any one got a pair of scissors?
You are not Clint Eastwood and looking at you there is no way you are getting on me porkie
well groomed man
No luck with the Dartmoor ponies we had to cross one more moor and our freedom waited. a two mile walk and Catbells team of followers wanted to come with her. That animal magnetism showed through as she attracted loads of male admirers
Eventually we arrived at the Dartmoor Leat and you got a chance to see the effects of what we faced in our bid for freedom. It was not snow but water frost from rain and ice cold conditions.
up the hill and the border waited and we crossed it to safety. an adventure we all enjoyed
As a side note

Stroller shared his drink ( water not the whiskey ) a funny great bloke GLASGOW marathon
