Here are some photos, pre digital of my previous life, can't put names to the places as some are going back 25/30 years. I know some are from Wales, Three Peaks and possible near Edale. I think the photos will explain the life change and I hope that they won't stop people corresponding.

Here are a few more...

And the last ones...

I love looking at older landscape photos, you must have some great memories there :)

The 11th photo looks like its taken from Kinder Scout near Crowden Tower looking down Crowden Clough and with Mam Tor and Lords Seat in the background.
-
Always amuses me looking at old photos and the differences in the colours compared to the sharper colours on the new digi cameras.
The old stuff still has an appeal though hence Photoshop and its ilk being used to restore the "aged" look to some peoples work. Photoshop can't however replace them old jumpers.... Tragic ;)

are you serious? did you never use Fujichrome Velvia film?

I was going to say I thought those were of the Crybin PenY Fan area. Always looks different from day to day. Great old piccies and I'm guessing that's you in the first ones in the green :)

Thanks everyone for the replies, you are all such a wonderful lot. Before I joined this forum it has been a very lonely 10 years. Now I feel less alone.
Piston Pete, yes I am the one wearing green and also in most of the shots. Some of them in the shorts date back to when I was 15 when I cycled from South Leicestershire to Edale for a weekend of camping/hiking and then cycled back.

Well, you should have joined earlier. Quite a few people on here including myself have found help outside of walking and have found true friendship on ore than one occasion. This place has brought more than the odd one or two people out of their shells and enabled some to talk about things they never thought they would on a forum. I guess we just bring out the best in people.
I have had the micky taken on more than one occasion, but it's only because of the genuine friendliness you get on here. If it ever gets malicious or spiteful, it'll be a troll and RP, PB or Chris will be on them like a ton of bricks O0

God, the kit we used to wear, cold wet cotton T-Shirts and jeans, mad ;D I now stay relatively warm and dry in my layers and even if I get wet you dry so much quicker thanks to wicking materials. Oh and I've actually got a waterproof jacket that is!! Not like the RAF Cagoules :D The cold/wet gear in the RAF was called that, because, if you wore it, you were ::) ;D

or me julie, hope your happy :) , i love looking at old photos, sum really good ones there, thanx for sharing. :)

@Glyno
Im a child of the digital photo generation im afraid ;)
My reference was aimed primarily at the snaps that most people have laying around.
The images you linked however have fantastic colour I assume most people using that sort of equipment were pro-photographers.
-
Some lovely old photo's there, especially like the last two of Cribyn and Pen y Fan. O0 When it comes to walking I'm a mere youngster, only took up the hobby in 2008, so it's nice to see these older photo's. :)
-
Nice photos cheers for sharing O0
-
Thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome and for putting names to some of the photos. I can tell you that most of the pics were taken with a Zenith SLR, a very heavy camera. Actually thinking about it, I got the Zenith for my 21st so all these photos must have been taken after then. Before then I had a 110 camera.
I have had a lot of happy times hiking in the past back in the days when I worked as a printer and could afford every weekend away. Lake District was my favourite place, then the Peak District and all the other national parks. However I perhaps did so much over a 11 year period that it was taken for granted, not a mistake I will make again. Certainly any future walks will get documented and filed properly. Had no work this week so been enjoying searching for wild camping walking/hiking videos.

O0 O0 O0 You are one gutsy person :) ...Count on my support and Im sure many others on here.... ;)

Well there's a few things I haven't heard in years, Zenith, 110 I had both of those. I took a half-frame camera to the Falklands, a Minolta I think, it enabled you to take 72 shots on a 36 frame 35mm film.
I also had an Olympus XA1? 35mm camera which was cracking, I bought a side mounted flash for it, it was very wee, but took great shots. Left it in the glove box of a hire car on Guernsey :(
Now got a couple of digital cameras and an iPhone that does everything!!! How far we've come from the box brownie :)

Still got a brownie in the cupboard I think. My first digital cost me £550 for a 1MP, had a few since then, last year I had a full setup of Canon 550D with 105mm Macro, 28 - 250 and a 100-500mm. Times have been tough so only had them for a few months. :(

None of em are ;)
I heard PP did some stand up once, at the end this bloke says,
"You're crap you are." Bloke's mate turns to PP and says,
"Ignore him, he's got no mind of his own, he just repeats what everyone else is sayin..."
PS I CAN do quotes, see... ;D

They are great photos Julie O0
I believe that few people ever find the courage and inner strength to be who they TRULY are and how they TRULY want to be - to be completely honest with themselves and those around them, no matter what the cost.
Perhaps some would view this as selfishness - but unless the 'self' is our first priority, our first consideration, then everything we do and say thereafter would be based on a lie. The foundation of our lives would be flawed forever.
Best wishes to you,
Tracey :)

Thats not your best joke ;D .
Unfortunately, I think it probably is. :-\

Thanks Tracey. I should have lots more, perhaps time to look in the attic and fish out my old maps and rucksacs. Might even have some routes drawn out on them, now that would be fun to look at. Been watching wild camping videos and remembering places I wasn't sure whether I had been to or not. Can certainly remember striding edge and helvelyn, I remember the last time I went up there it was all low cloud and then a brief interlude and I was terrified. Lol. Love being up the mountains but not so fond of steep drops, not that it has stopped me.
Watched someones video yestersay of the 3 peaks in Yorkshire, think that was the last walk I did in the NP's, which considering was a works sponsored walk and no one had walked above three miles before was quite an achievment for the group. We completed in 11hrs.

Thanks for the comments, don't use that email address for any other use so if it gets spammed no hardship. Have my own domain names, lots of them and unlimited email addresses to play with. If its breaking the rules I am sorry and can remove it.

Thanks for the offer but kind of out the way down here in Leicestershire. I am open to any part of the country but will have to take it easy as its been a while since I did any hill walking. Its rolling hills round here, 5-10 miles around here is like a stroll in the park to you northeners. :)

Thanks. Having had no work this week, I find myself with 3 computer jobs next week, just unfortunate that the brakes broke on the car today so its the garage first. Have a feeling that its going to be busy. Most of my work is removing viruses, got a nasty one to terminate, one I haven't seen before. Like a challenge bit like climbing a mountain. lol.

Na its pretty flat here. Not all of Yorkshire is pennines. Wolds are nearer but they're pretty tame. I tend to travel for walks. Leicester would be on the way to South Wales. Or maybe don't mind travelling a bit further to pick up for Peek District etc. If your stuck put it up and someone maybe able to assist O0 . Friendily bunch on here O0 . If you see my name on a walk you want to attend, if its not to far out the way shout!!! Okay?

Here are a few pics from Scotland, some where near Aviemore. They were taken in February of 1988. To me they capture the atmosphere. In those days I use to carry a CB radio in my rucsac. Probably a lot of the youngsters won't know what they are. ???

I quite like the idea of wearing a tie like AW! I loved wearing one at school, even though it wasn't compulsory for the girls. The lads thought it was kinda sexy :o , while my girlfriends thought I was mad! ;D
Yep, I'll be the one wearing a tie! ;)
-
Great photos and thread Julie.
I've still got a canvas rucksack that was my Dads and I think he bought it when he was in his teens so it should be about 60 years old.
I do have a pair of unworn 'Dalesman' breeches in the basement at work which I was given years ago and never got round to wearing.

No, believe it or not had one at 11. When traveling through the middle east airports the military use to come and sit with me and start talking. They use to think I was in their army. Was quite an obsticle to remove, 80hrs of and 7hrs of laser and still a pain today. lol. So Piston Pete do you look like your avatar?

Cuddlykoala I have not been as active on the forum over the last couple of weeks and I know this may seem a bit late on in the thread. I don't think anyone reading this would concider stopping corresponding with you. We all have personal lives but on here this forum is about walking and you obviously enjoy walking. I hope you continue to enjoy it on here.

Actually, those pictures look very joyful to me above all. So glad they've been received with warmth and support.
I have a professional acquiantance who made a similar choice and who I knew before and after she became open about her feelings at work. She was, and I think still is, in a quite senior position in commercial IT sector, and I did quite a bit of work and business with her and her company. I'm pleased to say that on the whole she was supported very well by her company, and I put that down to them recognising immense competence, rather than any silly political correctness. She once told me she can take the odd bigot, (actually she could probably have duffed them up now I think of it), but she couldn't deal with insincere political correctness. I heard she went into the public sector for a short period and met enormous prejudice and hostility - amazes me when you think of all the ridiculous stunts you hear about happening in an effort to stay politically correct, like schools deciding not to talk about Christmas in case you offend someone of a non-christian faith etc etc. Anyway, she certainly turned up a bit later back in the commercial sector and has continued to be very successful. I remember telling a colleague, who met her long after this change, that at first I found her inspirational but not anymore. He was a bit taken aback and asked me why I didn't feel like that now. I said, in the end, I just found her good company, and that means more.
-
Well said O0
-
Working in the public sector I'm sorry to say that I think the policy makes it worse. We have to have half day training courses on how to treat each other decently, which the cynic in me thinks is probably designed so the institution doesn't get sued. Every department has to have a 'diversity lead' to watch over us. In the end it just leads to a backlash by some people who just take the p**s and I get ignorant idiots saying 'ooh you said spade, you can't say that', 'I can when I'm talking about digging you t*sser, how do you like that word?' I say.
And if I havent said it before, Julie, you are as welcome as anyone on this lovely forum, it's the nicest most non-judgemental place I've been, so there. O0

Understamd where coming from and agree, what bugs me is all these laws and regulations. For instance the banning of conkers at school, cutting down trees because the seeds may harm you. Apparently in some schools you can't play on the playground incase you graze your knee and get infected. It seams that we getting more and more like a police state, I hate to think what the country will be like in 40 years.

True, but most of that isn't law at all, it's head teachers over reacting in case THEY get sued, and for that I blame Injurylawyersforyou.com >:( That's one for the 'pet hates' thread :)

Stupid isn't it. You know I slipped in Australia doing a hike on my own and took the skin off my leg from knee to ankle, it was a bloody mess with 100's bush flies swarming around it and it didn't get infected. Mine you did take a long while to heel but more from knocking the scabs off whilst bush walking.

I think the problem is that someone thought it was a good idea to legislate for what should be common sense. If you are a racist or bigot or homophobe then you can be sure you won't "Say" the wrong thing, but that doesn't make you less of a racist etc.
I am a social creature, when I want to be, but I'm also happy, more often than not, with my own company. I do tend to speak my mind, especially if asked, but I'm careful to not offend where I'm aware that I might.
Part of the problem is that people feel they shouldn't ask people that are "Different" what they consider to be personal questions. How do you get to understand and accept differences if you don't at least have an explanation from the people concerned.
Also, it is not compulsory to actually like a person that is different, ethnically, sexually or religiously or any other 'lly you want to bring up. I have worked with Asian people that I've liked, and I've met some that I disliked because they were arrogant or themselves racist, and the same is true of Black people that I've known and the Gay community.
People are people, you like some, you don't like others. Some become good friends (I've even got a Scottish one) and some just become friends that you walk with or see infrequently. Whatever someone's background, if they are arrogant, selfish, bigotted, Racist or whatever, you wouldn't like them would you? Unless of course you are, that's your choice.
What am I rambling on about? Well I'm saying, I judge people by the way they act once I've met them, I allow for differences in opinion, I don't like everyone I've ever met and I understand that some people don't share my sense of humour and aren't as vocal as I can be. I try to be helpful but I do expect people to help themselves as well and I find people that are different to the White Norm interesting not frightening, I think that's a key thing, but at the same time, trust is earnt, I'm not daft.
Hope that's made sense. My biggest failing probably is that being ex forces, I will tend to want to make a joke about something, or take the mickey, like we used to do to each other in the RAF. Nowadays I have to try and curb myself and be a bit more sensitive to peoples feelings. I do think though that if you're "different" you need to grow a bit of a skin otherwise you'll let everything get to you, including comments from [censored] who are Oxygen Thieves.
Cor blimey, rant over ;D
