Tailor-made boots
« on: 13:23:14, 18/12/17 »
Hi everyone

I'd like to find somebody who can make tailor-made boots. Any country in Europe is fine for me.
Any advice?
Thanks

I've no experience of them, but these people seem to specialise in the area

Otherwise & simpler, get a podiatrist to prescribe custom orthotics to fit off-the-shelf boots.

I was in the Altberg factory in Richmond about 2 years ago restocking on Leder Gris when a customer asked them if they made boots to order. They did but they said there was a bit of a waiting list - 5 years was mentioned. Not sure how that list is now with the MOD draw down, might be worth an ask.  On the other hand, when Mrs Ninthace got her boots from them, they started with a best fit off the shelf pair and then stretched them to accommodate her foot - that took 48hrs and they are by far the most comfortable outdoor shoes she has.

Hi Oldtramp.
Thanks for your advice. I'll contact Altberg. When you say "orthotics" I guess you mean "insoles". I already wear insoles.  ;)

All orthotics are insoles, but not all insoles are orthotics.....   Some insoles are just a bit of cushioning in the base of the shoe; these aren't orthotics.

An orthotic is a shaped insole designed to improve foot function.   It may be 'off the shelf' or custom manufactured to a podiatrist's prescription based on his/her analysis of your gait and any discrepancies and variations e.g. in leg length, foot shape etc.

I bought orthotics off the shelf at Shuropody in the centre of Nottingham and they helped greatly. I must say that they are not to be confused with insoles. Hope this helps.

Add my voice to Altberg boots. Whilst not individually handmade they come in different sizes and widths. The retailers are really good at finding the right length and width for you. Superb boots for walking in compared to the usual suspects.

Thanks Redeye for your advice about [size=0px]https://www.whalleyoutdoor.co.uk/boot-fitting-service/ [nofollow]
I see they don't make boots but advice you which boot to buy, and modify it if necessary.
I will contact them.
