28-29th December - A night by the river Kent

My plan was to explore Hall Cove, an interesting looking valley to the north of Kentmere. The weather scuppered that plan but i still had a nice couple of days walking off the mince pies and Christmas pud

Interesting and enjoyable TR, Karl: looks as though you had a good outing despite the weather.

My wife, son and I walked up past Scales to Kentmere Reservoir a couple of months ago, and I spotted that path up into Rainsborrow Cove - looks as if there might be an interesting way up to the top from there! I'm also intrigued by that slate cavern at the foot of the crag - I like that sort of thing.

The weather has been rubbish the last couple of weekends hasn't it? Good that you got out, you are braver than us 

This weekend looks pretty good, sunshine, lighter winds, if a bit cold

Dismal weather again but a good circuit, nice shots over the water  .
We've never walked up that valley past the reservoir, it looks good. The terrain seems formidably steep on the west side of the valley, we've seen it only from above at Rainsborrow Tarn (a worthy objective if a good ascent line can be found).

Richard like you I love the industrial heritage of the Lakes and I could poke around in old quarries and levels all day.
There are a couple of pics of the quarry adjacent to Rainsborrow crag from when I walked around the reservoir  HERE

I enjoyed reading that.  Low cloud and mist always looks so atmospheric when it's wrapping itself round mountains

I had a brief poke around that quarry a couple of months ago, but didn't get as far as the fenced off 'cave'. There is a lower level adit that appears to be accessible but I didn't have a head torch - and I didn't fancy getting my feet wet paddling through the flooded entrance!
