Anyone got suggestions for something you can sit on you can fit in your backpack? I got a wet bum sitting down today and while a rubble sack would solve this there's probably something better.

The usual answer is to cut off a section of CCF sleeping mat and use that.

I have a Klymit Cush which I bought for a lightweight pillow but it's awful for thst. It does hiwhowe make.a great seat - very light, comfy and blows up in a single breath.

Just pop into any camping shop and buy a three or four fold mat, I think its called a Multimat or similar. Should cost you less than a fiver. I always carry one with me, worth its weight in gold! Multipurpose too, good for standing on with bare feet to wiggle my toes after a hard days hike, to rest my wet boots on in my tent overnight and even to stand on when I have to use a public shower, so many uses including to sit on as well.

Yes, a bit of CCF (closed cell foam) mat is the usual, or that thin, silvery, quilted insulation used for backing radiators or as carpet underlay
You can also use the latter to make a pot cosy

Use the mat as a doormat to prevent muddy knees when crawling into & out of a small tent

I have a home made CCF mat, just folds in two, taped with a polythene cover which makes it wipeable. Handy when sat on sheep sh.. :o

The cover also helps it glide easily back into a full rucksack  O0

and helps make the 'sac a bit comfier too as it stops harder-edged contents poking into your back :-)

Getting a CCF sleeping mat just to cut it up seemed expensive (or it did until I saw this after I already made a purchase, I think that's a CCF sleeping mat? It doesn't say) so I plumped for a self inflating mat. I've no idea if it will take my weight or not but if it doesn't I can buy something else. It comes with a stuff sack so it will fit nicely in my pack.

You just need something similar to this, a folding sit mat.

Good god bri!!!! SEVEN QUID for a sit mat?  :o    :D    Winfields sell the same one in store for £2 (Trekmates brand)

Rob - there are also lightweight foldable tripod type stools that pack small to fit in a rucksack but I've not found those to be the most stable of seats, plus the legs can sink into the ground if not on rocks..... not sure why I mentioned them really  ;D

SEVEN QUID? ? ?    ;D

It was just an example of something that would be ideal  O0

Didn't look at the price and would NEVER splash out that much, lol. I usually just get out my waterproof trousers and sit on them  ;)

SEVEN QUID? ? ?

I paid £10 for the self-inflating kind I've ordered plus £1.95 delivery. I hope it's decent you must think they saw me coming!

Your example lead me to my purchase but I went all Prada and bought the self-inflating one.

It's okay.  You're falling down the "mmmmmmmmm ..... I need new kit.... must buy" rabbit-hole  ;D

(we've all done it - it's how we learn what's right (or not) for us! )

... Yours should be far superior to the canvas coated sponge (or Closed Cell Foam if you want to be posh) mats.

My best overpriced purchase was some Bridgedale socks for £16.  My £1.99 for a pack of 3 sports socks from Aldi are actually better  :-X

I have an old fertilizer bag in the boot that I keep our boots on .  A square of that would do - bit short on insulation but sure would fold up flat.
