Title: Crampons for Large Feet
Post by: BuzyG on 17:35:52, 11/09/19
Every silver lining has a cloud it would appear.   I grabbed a great pair of bargain winter boots a few weeks back.  Size 49.  Today I thought I would try them with my Crampons.  They don't fit.  The old boots where 48s and just fit them.

Does any one out there know where I can get crampons to fit size 49.  That's 13 UK or 14 US.

Other wise I will have to put my engineering head on and create an extension bar.

The Boots are Scarpa.  The crampons are Grivel.

Grivel sell long and extra long bars that go between the heel and toe pieces. Have a look online someone will have them in stock. I think I got mine from Braemar mountain sports.

Grivel extension bars.  They do/did solid ones and springy ones.

Depending on which crampons you've got, putting an extension bar in can make the front plate of the crampon a little too far forward on the boot sole. I swapped my G10s for a pair of G12s because of this. Not enough spikes on the G10s, and they were to far forward.

Have the same problem, I'd learn towards hybrid crampons with extra spikes if you have a boot to use them as I found C1s with long bars quite unstable at times.  I do believe Climbing Technology do a slightly larger crampon which may fit those between large/xlarge feet but other than that there are little options.

Yes,  I can see that being a possible issue.  They are 10s.  I'll split them tomorrow and check where the spikes sit on the sole, before I go any further.

Split them and they do sit a bit forward on he front section.  Measured up and just ordered some 190mm extension bars. Should do he trick.

Thanks all.. O0

The 190mm bars arrived today. They are slightly more meaty than what was there.  All the better for that.  The Crampons now fit my new boots perfectly.

Thanks again. O0
