I've mentioned this before but feel the need to mention it again. I bought a £30 Lowe Alpine waterproof hat some time ago, its the model that has a peak and designed to cover the wearer's ears. Ideal when its cold, wet and windy and great when worn under the hood of my waterproof jacket. But I then lost it, I left it on a bus.
I searched around on the internet and nearly bought another one but I also noticed a similar model made by Highlander. It looked the same but it only cost £10 so I bought one and I've never regretted it.
I've worn this hat a few times now and I can honestly say that I believe it to be superior to the Lowe Alpine hat, they are both equally waterproof but the Highlander fits much better and covers my ears more comfortably.
If I manage to climb to the top of Great Gable next November 11th I guarantee it will be on my head. On the previous two occasions that I climbed to the summit it was bitterly cold and windy. For me, wearing this type of hat in that type of weather is absolutely essential!
