Muntjac Deer On MY Walk Today

Last time I drove on the A1 regularly I was shocked at the number of Muntjac bodies along the roadside. Since it is mainly lorries that get them then I see no reason to believe the number of casualties has decreased since March.

A few years ago when walking the Viking Way I frequently saw loads of them in the fields.

They have truly thrived over the years since escaping into the wild.

I do wonder if they are having an effect on our native deer. We saw what happened to Red squirrels when they got infected with a harmless to the invasive Grey squirrel disease.

In the last few months I've seen red, roe, and now muntjac deer.

It's always a thrill to see wildlife, particularly something a bit different.  Pity you couldn't get a pic of the deer but they are skittishly difficult to photograph - at least the baths stood still and posed for a pic  :D
