Creepies, Crawlies and Flappy Things

In the spirit of equality and (bio)diversity, here’s a thread for pics of the little, often overlooked, critters.
 
I’ll start off with these, taken on a local walk recently.  Sadly, I don’t know what the bug or the moth is. I think the butterfly is a Speckled Wood.

Still just a bit early for peak flappy this year but we will be heading for Wharram Quarry in the near future. my favourite site for butterflies. In the meantime there are still some fine insects to photograph around Scarborough.

My thought too - in respect of my camera - desuaded me from putting on any of mine. Great photos

Thanks Mel. The Hoverflies were hanging in the air beside us while we were having lunch (I suppose the clue is in the name). I set my camera up and just waited for one to drift into focus. I took quite a few shots to get one or two that I was happy with.

I like spiders but that one made me jump when the picture came up

These are tricky little things to photograph, never more than about 6" off the ground and usually hidden behind blades of grass or other vegetation.

  You wouldn't believe where you have to go to get a tasty aphid these days
