TV Programme - Climbing Blind
« on: 13:16:56, 20/05/20 »
Tonight on BBC4 9pm a programme called Climbing Blind.

Documentary about Jesse Dufton and his attempt to take on the challenge of becoming the first blind person to lead a climb of the Old Man of Hoy, in Orkney, Scotland.

Might be worth a watch.

I am gobsmacked just watched that. I've not done the old man, but I have done the sloth and the rasp which he did as training climbs. They are both really hard routes. I just couldn't imagine how anyone could do them without being able to see where they were going. A much over used word but that was awesome.

I don't think I have ever used that word before but aye, awesome. Molly is equally as brave because she is climbing blind too, in a way, trusting the protection placed by the lead climber.

Jesse Dufton was on the Radio last week, I think, talking about it.
Sounded interesting.  But I don't have a telly, so will have to skip this one.

That was something else. Absolute respect for him, not letting his blindness (not disability) get in the way of his dreams.

Not without a license.  Got a warning after my girlfriend downloaded it onto my Kindle, and she had a license.
They still managed to trace the device to me.
The TV licensing should sort out the COVID-19 Track and Trace.

Very fine teamwork by the couple on the grand climb.
For those of us who have managed to.get to.the Stack it does leave us with a wonderfu memory.  That man on the sharp end leaves us with.... Well how does he do it...feeling his way up the climb.
We did alternative pitch leads.  On the second crucial pitch I had, when seconding, the less strenuous ability to bridge across rather than stray into the sandy slot.
I agree with the folks in the film that the final cracking pitch is truly magical.
Well done to the team.

It's nothing to do with them tracking your device. It's not a warning is it? It's a question about whether or not you have a license. Unless you make an account at the BBC website and are logged into it you always get the pop-up asking if you have a license - it's the only way the can know if they've asked you the question before. In web terms it's about as benign as it gets. I have a license and it's constantly ask me whether I have one because it has neither tracked nor traced my device. The only thing the BBC absolutely control is that your IP address must be in the UK.

Well I got a letter, saying one of my devices had been used with the iPlayer.
It was all a surprise to me as I have not had a TV for nearly 30 years.

So, if you click on 'yes' when asked whether you have a licence that will satisfy them - even if you haven't got one?

Just asking for a friend - no honest, guv I do have one :)

Yes. To my knowledge nobody has ever been prosecuted for accessing BBC online content without owning a license. The fabled "detector vans" of yore were largely a myth.
