BBC 2 TONIGHT 20.00 - North York Moors
« on: 13:36:49, 18/03/21 »
"In the north east of England lies a wild and remote moorland. This ancient landscape of heather-clad uplands and sheltered dales is home to red grouse and tough moorland sheep."

Really enjoyed the Moors programme.  Trouble is, now I JUST CAN'T WAIT to get back out there (sobs).

Similarly the Wolds but I'll be able to get to them sooner I think (hope).

I enjoyed the Moors program, particularly the wildlife shots and the heather, but I thought that the narration was rather fawning towards the shooting estates - beautiful as they are, the heather moors only exist for the benefit of those who regard shooting driven birds out of the sky as a sport. It is an unnatural landscape that has only been there 150 years, as the program states, and the Moors would be even more beautiful, in my opinion, if they were allowed to revert back to something approaching their natural state, and would offer a much more diverse habitat to wildlife than heather monoculture ever could.

I missed the Paul Rose one and much of the NYM doc as I was busy - no problem though cos I'll watch on iPlayer.

I caught a few bits of the latter but I'm not a fan of that particular style of voice-over.  As to the disfigurement caused by heather-burning to maintain habitat for the grouse, shooting is not a sport in my mind - IMO killing birds and animals for 'fun' is, frankly, despicable.  >:(

Lots of nice pictures but no substance and  the commentary was too cliche ridden for my taste.
