Hi there drive north from grasmere towards keswick go through thirlmere and on RH side is a small farm site next door to the pub the pitch is on the road so you get traffic noise and the shower block is ok but the pub is the best bit. O0
Every journey begins with a single footprint.
Nuts about walking.

I'm pretty sure there are no campsites in Grasmere. yamyam is right to say your closest bet is a site near Thirlmere.

I think this is the one that yamyam refers to: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=9277

There's also: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=9277.

I've not stayed at either of these so can't comment but both sound ok.

If you're driving and don't mind being a tad further afield there's the Low Wray  National Trust site - approx 7 miles away, near Ambleside. This has a lovely lakeside position but very pricey and IMHO since the NT changed the pricing structure.

Finally you've got the two Castlerigg sites near Keswick approx 10 miles away:

http://www.castleriggfarm.com/ - one of my fave sites - however they don't take bookings for tents so get there early.

or - http://www.castlerigg.co.uk/ -not stayed here myself but know people who have and they have been back a number of times.

hope this helps. :)

Rydal Hall is located between Ambleside and Grasmere  (about equal walking distance to both - 1.5-ish miles). This has camping pitches along with yurts and pods. There is a tea shop on site and it's a couple of minutes walk to the Badger Bar at the Glen Rothy hotel.

The closest to Grasmere i can think of is the pub travellers rest? (on the A591) that allows camping out the back and plenty of farmhouse sites a bit further north or Rydal to the south.

No campsites in Grasmere. There is one near Elterwater in Great Langdale called Baysbrown.
