I've tried uploading photos twice from Facebook to here but can't. Is anyone else having trouble? Never happened before to me

This is an image from Flickr, which seems to work OK.
-
I've always had trouble posting photos, I just can't get my head around how to do it properly.

There are still folk on Farcebook?

Not me. Never have been, could never see the point, even more the case for Twitter.
-
Nor me either, not on Facebook or Twitter!
-
I watched the film Mr Jones this afternoon, I thought it was really good, it made me feel good about not being on Facebook or Twitter.
-
As far as I am aware, you cannot post photos from Facebook.

Unfortunately not any more.
I have used ibb successfully - give that a try
-
I use imgbb to host images for my trip reports - nice and simple, no ads.
-
Here's the link
https://imgbb.com
-
I use postimage.org.uk

I didn’t know that! I’ve used Facebook to post photos for ages! But then again, it’s been a while since I posted any on here :-[
I’ll have to use another source now then....
-
no cant get any working. damnation !
-
Try postimage https://postimages.org/ (https://postimages.org/). No need to log in to use it
-
Oh, thank you for that. In the past, I used photobucket, but now, it come with annoying watermark. Today, I received a warning to say I'd used up my monthly allowance (I didn't use much this month :-\ )
-
(https://postimg.cc/gallery/16udos0jg/)I have tried both the sites mentioned but when I try to insert the link it doesn't work. in fact if I try to insert any link it tells me that I am not allowed to post links on this site.
>:(
I would pull the hair from my head if I had any .
How the heck Bigfoot Mike managed to get a picture up is way beyond me .
-

I assume it's because you're new and don't have enough posts yet, that's a common rule for a forum.
Until then you could use the old trick of obfuscating the link protocol, e.g. hxxps://somewebsite.com, this works for giving people a simple editable link to a site but obviously not for posting an image.

This is the URL of the link in your post:
https://postimg.cc/gallery/16udos0jg/
This isn't an image because an image file would include (end with) a filename - e.g. photo.jpg
In other words, the URL would look like this:
https://postimg.cc/gallery/16udos0jg/photo.jpg
If you're copying and pasting a link to an image, you need to ensure that the entire link is included.
-
And here is the photo using the correct URL... :)
https://i.postimg.cc/NFj6yjNP/footpath-completely-ploughed-out.jpg
(https://i.postimg.cc/NFj6yjNP/footpath-completely-ploughed-out.jpg)
...although it would be better resized to no more than about 1200 pixels width.
-
Just a thought - are you using Microsoft Edge?
-
Well done Whitstable Dave I am amazed you got the image up many thanks indeed for the info . I may be an old codger but there are still many things to learn .
I found it easier trying to walk along the said footpath in the picture than working out how to post a photo . I will try my best to work out how to resize a photo ....before Christmas hopefully.
I think VGhikers is right that as I am a newbie here I may well be limited in posting links.
I am not using edge but opera or explorer.

No problem, and it's a great photo. O0
I joined the forum last year and included an image in my fifth post, so being new shouldn't be an issue.
It's really just a matter of using the correct URL. The browser is irrelevant - but some browsers do make it easier to get the image URL than others. For example, with Firefox it's just a matter of right-clicking the image and choosing 'Copy image location' then pasting it into your post.
Good luck!

No, I still don't get it!
I can upload to either 'imgbb' or to 'postimage' but then I'm stuck, as soon as my photo appears what do I click on next? And what size do I choose?
To my eyes it looks as though 'postimage' has the easier layout?
Also, if necessary can a Word document or a PDF of a Word document be uploaded to the Forum. My brain only works to a certain point and then I'm done for.
-
On Postimage. Starting at opening page of Postimages.org:
Click on "Do Not Resize my images" button and select "640x480(for message boards)".
Click "Choose images"
Browse to the image you want - I can't tell you how to do that as I do not know what arcane method you have for storing images.
Either double click or open the image file and it will download to Postimages
Click on the copy button to the right of the Hotlink for Forums
Go back to Walking Forum and paste (Ctrl V) into your forum post
Step back and accept round of applause

With imgbb there is a small box that appears after you have uploaded the image.
In that box is a link, you have to copy that link (highlight and copy with either a right click, or Ctrl+c).
That is the link you put into a post.

That is the link you put into a post.
Better to use the forum 'Insert Image' button and paste the link in there, then the picture will appear inline rather than just a link to the external hosting site.

Alternatively, instead of copying the line in "Hotlink for forums", you can copy and paste the contents of "Direct link" which is the second line down.
Works OK for me. Just saying.

Dear all,
On this subject, I too, am unable to post images.
In the 'Post reply' window, I click on the first icon 'Insert Image', which gives me a pop up window, titled 'Enter image location'.
In the box I copy and paste the URL for my image, in this case
https://www.flickr.com/photos/144299327@N04/49553869403/in/datetaken/
Then click 'OK'
Am I doing something wrong?
Please see my entry at Reply #1009 on: 20:54:45, 26/02/20 on (http://www.walkingforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=33266.msg569177#msg569177)
Where are you good people walking DURING the week?
I don't fancy signing up to postimage or imgbb or alike just post images here.
I can insert hyperlinks (https://www.flickr.com/photos/144299327@N04/49553869403/in/datetaken/) without any problem, but not actual images.
Any advice/guidance appreciated

Hi Ninthace,
I've just gone on to Postimages and uploaded my image(https://postimg.cc/YGZzLpX7). This is the link https://postimg.cc/YGZzLpX7 that I copied and pasted into the box, but it still won't work.
Any advice

This is what I get using your image saved to my PC
(https://i.postimg.cc/Hx4XqCCR/IMG-0013.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
That url looks a bit short to me. Did you copy the hotlink for forums?
-
Postimages.org does not require an account or a log in.
imgbb.com don't need an account either.
I can't seem to post visible images. Is it because I am a new member?

You have 100 posts so unlikely unless there is a time limit. Check the FAQ

And an extra yellow square. Like working at McDonalds, if I last another day I will get 5 gold stars.

Now that is weird. If I just paste the URL in, the picture appears and not the URL. Confused :-\
I would just like to add, when I previewed the post, only the URL showed, not the image. But when I published the post, the image is displayed and not the url.
-

That is how it is supposed to work. I never use the insert image button. Copy the postimage link as I said and post it into your reply and you will see the url in the draft text but if you look at the preview you will see the picture.
-
Let me see if it is now working:

Just a test, as I've not attempted to post pics for a while s I had trouble doing so.
Didn't work. Pic itself not important.
I think it's because, though suggestion was to change to Chrome, I'm still using Microsoft Edge.
-

Yes, just like that.
It does not seem to matter if I just paste the URL into the body of the text, or use the Insert Image, or which link from postimage I use.

Hi SteamyTea
The problem seems to be that your post contains...
[url]https://i.postimg.cc/Pr4DFzYj/The-Loe.jpg[/url]
...when it ought to contain:
[img]https://i.postimg.cc/Pr4DFzYj/The-Loe.jpg[/img]
The tags in square brackets should be img, not url.
Hope that helps.

Let's see:
No, don't seem to make any difference and tried the usual permutations.

I'm afraid that copying and pasting my line won't work because it contains hidden text for clarity - you need to type it as shown.
Also, you only need the one ending in .jpg, because the other isn't the URL of an image. :)
-

I must be missing something as it makes no difference if I copy and paste, or manually type in.

You are enclosing both links to the image in URL tags. An image should be enclosed in IMG tags.
Example:
[IMG]https://i.postimg.cc/Pr4DFzYj/The-Loe.jpg[/IMG]

Just a guess, were you posting the direct link https://i.postimg.cc/fR1V5wrD/The-Loe.jpg rather than the hotlink for forums further down the page (I tried copying and pasting the url to show the difference but it kept coming up with a picture)

I types in all in manually, but when I have some interesting pictures, I shall play about and see what happens.

Thanks to Steamy Tea ninthace , Whitstable Dave I think I have got it now .
I remember sitting in class totally confused by Maths and a teacher saying if anyone doesn't understand just say ,..unfortunately we were all too scared to speak up and admit that we didn't have a clue as to what this strange language was ( in case we looked stupid). I failed Maths miserably. So thanks to you all for the great help hopefully I am able to post a picture .Never too old to learn they say.

No. The screenshots I posted recently were *.png files.
