We are going up to the Lakes next Friday staying in Ambleside but
would like to have a drive out for a nice pub meal looking for recommendations please.

How far away?
The Strands, Nether Wasdale, you'll have to book. Have the meat pie it is legendary in our family, the pie against which all other pies are judged and always found wanting.

Britannia Inn in Elterwater - used to do a good Lamb Shank.

You're spoilt for choice! The Mortal Man at Troutbeck - terrific beer garden if the weather's right. Old Dungeon Ghyll or Stickle Barn in Great Langdale. Wainwright's at Chapel Stile. The Watermill at Ings, just east of Windermere - it even has its own brewery. People rave about the Drunken Duck near Hawkshead, though I'm afraid I've never been.

Superb after walking over Wansfell Pike.
