Just taken delivery of a pair of pacerpoles - looking forward to giving them a whirl on Saturday.  They look and feel very well made, and the personal service and instructions from Heather at pacerpoles are first class.

I have a pair of Pacerpoles, Percy introduced me to them. I think they are great. When I had ordinary poles I always became sore between my thumb and forefinger. The only problem I've had (it was my fault) was to not tighten the lower poles properly (mines a two-section pole) and when crossing a stream and leaning on them they closed up and I ended up almost face down in the water! Luckily it was a very hot day and my clothes were dry again a couple of hours later. No one around so I just stripped off and laid my wet clothes on the grass. I changed my underwear of course and then had a snooze. I had to endure wet feet until the next day, my boots took that much longer to sort themselves out.

I recently bought a pair of Hi-Tec Raven Mid WP
Hikeing  boots .
When they arrived I tried them on .
And was Disappointed

They where far to tight ,across the Instep  and toebox .
As I'm a size 8
I had ordered a size 9
So decided to have a day out and drive to

 Winfields Camping at Haslingden Lancashire.
Customer services where very helpful .

I then  I went for a size 10 .
As soon As I put on felt nice and comfortable and walked in them to test .

So I was happy with them .

(But having to go two sizes up for a good fit...

Then had a good look and peruse around the shop and the Outdoor Tents .

Haven't been to Winfields for a few years, felt it was a bit "pile them high, sell them cheap" Has it improved?

Hi Shortwalker.
It's the first time I've been to Winfields
The single story building looks like an Old garage warehouse ,and they appear to be working on it
And I thought It was like you said .
It was Interesting to walk around and look at all the goodies .
Yes a lot of cheap gear .
Nothing outstanding .
A big display outside of Large family tents and 2/3 man tents .
No backpacking tents .
Myself I much prefer at Go Outdoors
Newly refurbished Cheadle Heath and Decathalon
Stockport .
As they are local shops .

Where is decathalon in Stockport?

The nearest one I know of is Warrington. Mind you the Warrington store does have the advantage of being near an Axminister store.

(Axminster sell items mainly aimed at woodworkers, which is my main hobby)

The Stockport Decathlon is near the M60/A6 crossing - just the Manchester side of the M60 opposite a B&Q the other side of the A6 from the old Debenhams

Today was a 'nearly' purchase. I went to Snow and Rock with the intention of buying a Patagonia R1 mid-layer. It didn't work, I wanted a full zip with no hood, and all they had was a half zip with no hood or a full zip with a hood. I don't want another hood, OK on a waterproof or a windproof jacket but no more, so at that price, I wasn't prepared to compromise.

I tried on the half zip and as I struggled to get it on and then struggled to get it off I thought why would anyone buy such a thing? In the end, to get it off me I had to pull the whole thing until it was inside out.

I also tried on a full zip Rab warm 'cardigan' but decided on No because the material just clung to my hiking shirt. to get it off I also had to pull it inside out.

GWM I have the R1 in the half zip with a hood and I love it. Warmth to weight ratio is great and I thought the hood would be handy during a cool evening in camp. I don’t have a problem with ingress or egress, I must be more flexible than I thought😀

Good luck with the Pennine Way

Just arrived - a pair of cups.  :)

Mine is the Inov-8 and my wife wanted the Salomon.  ;)

Quote
The 200ml Speedcup is lightweight and super-durable. The cup weighs only 7 grams and is easy to roll, fold or simply stash away in a race vest pocket. Suitable for both hot and cold drinks, a reinforced brim and molded thumb loop offers stability whilst in use. Designed to last, it is easy to clean and dishwasher safe. 100% BPA and PVC free.

Intended for use at aid stations during Covid, but at only 7gms, tough and highly squash-able, these might also be of interest to campers.

Bet that you wouldn't fill them with 200ml of scalding hot tea!

PS - for a cheapo dog water bowl, I cut 50mm off the bottom of a 4 litre carton of milk (polyethylene, I think) - light as a feather, and seems to be indestructible.
