Mon 2 Nov

We were lucky we could still stay at the pod at Riverside, we'd booked this a while ago and the new lockdown started Thursday. We did a quick walk before we went to the pod for our allotted book in time of 2pm. It was very windy and cold so we didn't go up on Humbleton Hill which had been the plan.

On the ROW around Humbleton Hill

We dropped down to go around it instead.

We turned back here because the wind was awful here, blasting into our faces, we retraced our steps back toward Wooler Common. We had some lunch sheltered behind a wall then took a couple of turns around the wildlife area at Wooler Common. A nice walk with lots of birds to see.

Spot the red squirrel

Beefy got a few fantastic shots of it, he got it head on. Our walk was 4 miles and 202m ascent.

Tue 3 Nov

We parked in the layby near to Harkness Rocks, then walked southward on the beach. It was cold and blustery but we did have a bit of sunshine.

Farne Islands

We walked as far as Monks House Rocks then stopped for some lunch before we turned tail and headed back to the start.

Interesting rocks on Bamburgh Beach

Bamburgh Castle

We sat in the car for 10 minutes to have a rest then we headed north to Budle Point.

Budle Bay from Budle Point

The Cheviot Hills can be seen in the distance and I think it is Hedgehope Hill and The Cheviot next to it with the cloud over it. From Budle Point we turned back to the car again. We stopped to take a look at the lighthouse.

It was a very enjoyable walk, we love this beach. The walk was 6.5 miles and 117m of ascent.

Wed 4 Nov

We parked in a layby near Seahouses and continued on from the day before southward from Monks House Rocks toward Seahouses.

Looking at Bamburgh Castle from The Tumblers

It was cold again and blustery but we did have a bit of sun too.

Seahouses Harbour

We debated going out on a boat to the Farne Islands. It was really cold and I didn't fancy sitting on a boat for at least 1 hour 30. We will come back when it is warmer and when Covid has bogged off and go on one of the boats.

Birdlife on Southend Rock

We stopped on the beach near North Sunderland Point for some lunch then retraced our steps back to the car. Another nice walk and there is still a lot of coastline to explore here. We will come back next year. Our walk was 4.9 miles with 101m ascent.

Ah, April, a lovely reminder of my home.

I had to teach beefy how to say Bamburgh properly  ;)

That coastline is a wonderfully scenic bit of the country. :)

It is lovely and there is a lot more of it  :)

Memories for me too - June 2002 - pitching the tent in a thunderstorm, all the nesting birds on Farne, dive bombed by the terns, and a miserably wet walk up the Cheviot - enjoyed every minute :)
So many paths yet to walk, so little time left

Hurry up lazy git

I wondered what you 3 had been up to.

We also drank a lot of wine during our holiday. We were making sure we hadn't lost our sense of taste.

;D  Sounds like typical Northumberland weather  :)

We were so lucky that Boris decided Thursday was the start, any earlier and we would have had to rebook. Verdant Leisure who run the park at Wooler are being very flexible with any bookings, they will change holiday dates if people can't go because of Covid. We are going to book for next year but stay in a static caravan. Luxury for us  :)

Bamburgh, if you've been there, you will have had a good day!

It is a lovely beach and the scenery is wonderful. I've been there a few times when I lived in the north east and we went there earlier this year (pre Covid).

Oh you got there two days late, Summer was the previous two days.

We used to describe the slight breeze you are on about as " having bones in it".

The old boys called the North Sea the German Sea. Birds dive bombing are a way of life.
