Hi all. I'm heading to Kendal on Sunday and staying for three nights and I am wondering if people have any suggestions for my 'basic' plans. I'll be with my 13 year old lad who is getting harder to please the older he gets, so anything that will help steer him away from yapping on and on, and on about Xbox will be most welcome.
I won't be arriving until mid-afternoon on Sunday, so figured I'd check in to the hotel, dump the luggage then go for a short walk around Kendal. Is the castle or any other historic sites good to view, or am I best having a walk by the river and more into the countryside? Probably looking for a two or three hour walk.
Monday I am thinking of heading to Ambleside, looking around there, then maybe going up high to get a good view of the scenery. Is there anything in that area that is particularly interesting please? Any decent waterfalls or caves?
Tuesday I was going to head across the water from Windermere, to the east side. I know there is a steam train that is a short journey but other than that I was going to play it by ear. Is there much else to see over that side?
The last day I am going to Windermere. I'm hiring a boat for a couple of hours, so along with sightseeing, I am pretty much sorted for that day.
Any suggestions most welcome. I was initially planning for this to be a walking holiday with a little sightseeing and a few activities to keep my son happy, but I think it's going to flip around and it'll be more a stroll around the towns. Think I might have to go on my own another time for serious walking lol.
Thanks all
