Foulshaw Ospreys have hatched
« on: 07:21:05, 02/06/20 »
I know that some of you were interested in the Osprey webcam at Foulshaw Moss in the SE Lakes, so I thought that I would post this.

I've spotted some movement beneath the sitting parent, but haven't had a good view of them yet.

There were some great views of the chicks yesterday. I still haven't managed to see a parent returning with food though.

I can only see two chicks now - sadly it seemed a bit inevitable that the smallest wouldn't make it after watching it missing out whilst the chicks were being fed the other day.

But the remaining two look good and strong.

The adult appears to be preening the chicks now.

Ospreys are incredible birds. We are fortunate to have a reasonable number in Scotland. I have managed to see them at Loch Garten and Loch of the Lowes, but best of all hovering over the River Don from the Bridge of Alford on a circular walk from home a couple of years ago.

There are huge numbers of Osprey in Florida and they are easy to see there. I once saw 7 in a 200 metre stretch, including one being chased by a bald eagle for the fish it had caught.

Both adults in the nest now, each with a fish!

Those chicks will burst!

We've seen ospreys on another nest locally, no public webcam on that one though, no publicity at all, in fact. I guess the Wildlife Trust want some nesting sites to have a low profile for fear of attracting the attention of nest raiders.

Finally managed to look at the webcam in daylight (  :-[   ;D  )

Mum or dad has got a funky hairstyle going on.  Chicks are starting to get their proper feathers now  :)
