Last Saturday saw me venture to the southern Mournes. Starting from Kilbroney forest park, a circular walk took in Slieveban, Slievemeen and Slievemartin. The ascent through the forest was on a minor road followed by a good track before a short grassy trail led to the summit of Slieveban. This is one of my top five summits in the Mournes because of the great views across Carlingford Lough. Following the fence I continued to Slievemeen as views opened up of western and eastern Mournes. I made the short ascent to Slievemartin before descending to the Cloughmore boulder and back to the car park through the forest. Total distance was 10km taking 3 hours.
