Well, that's it for another year.
As 2020 began, I decided my target for the year would be to walk 3,000 miles and all was going nicely to plan... until lockdown.
So that we could continue to do a significant amount of exercise daily, we bought a treadmill. That, combined with me taking a real cut in grandfather duties, meant that I clocked up far more miles than I would otherwise have done - after all, there wasn't much else to do! The treadmill was such a success that we decided to spend what we'd saved on our cancelled Christmas holiday on a better treadmill ( / incline trainer).
The mileage for 2020 was:
Normal outdoor distance recorded by GPS:
2,486 miles
Distance recorded for treadmill activities:
1,630 miles
Total recorded distance in 2020:
4,116 miles.
Here's how the monthly mileage was split:
I enjoyed doing hill and mountain walks on the first treadmill, although the maximum ascent was only 12% so they were quite easy. Things changed a lot with the inline trainer because that goes up to 40%, which is very challenging and much more realistic.
My total ascent for 2020 was:
Normal outdoor ascent recorded by GPS:
133,395 ft.
Ascent recorded during treadmill activities:
154,888 ft.
Total recorded ascent in 2020:
288,283 ft.
