Staffordshire way
« on: 19:04:01, 03/11/20 »
Walk started from Rudyard lake steam narrow gauge railway station . (RLSR)
Heavy rain and muddy conditions .
So togged out in my waterproofs
(Now it's Monsoon Season   :-\

Walking North on the Old ,Macclesfied / Uttoxeter disused railway line .
About 1k came to the Dam (rail halt) went across the  Dam over the weir to take in the view of Rudyard lake .
Back onto the trail alongside the lake passing fishermen arrived at ( Hunthouse wood  rail halt ) end of the line for little steam train ,
Carried on to arrive at old Junction road crossing beside the Knot Inn, and Rushton Spencer as far as Wallhill to Where the Gritstone Trail And Dane Valley Way converge.
Going in Westerly route up to Bosley Cloud .
Then turned to go south to return to Rudyard lake following a levelled tracked lane through woods towards leeside ,
Coming out into open pasture land and the lake view .
I noticed on the slopes going uphill towards a farm in the Distance a Herd of Cows ,spread out grazing .
This caused me concern ............
Although it was blowing a gale and heavy rain I decided to wait for the critters to move off .
As the waymarker was going away thankfully off the levelled track .
At last the stragglers moved away .
So on I went .
As I approached the Dark canopy of the tree's through the woods .
I suddenly noticed cows were sheltering in each side of the path .
I decided to go past quitely  , luckily they just did not do any threatening moves .
I carried on uphill the track and away ,thankfully .
Then came upon an Eerie disused Gothic building Cliffe Park Hall built 1811 .
Onwards on the muddy rutted  trail through Reacliffe woods , downhill with many pathways to arrive at the Sailing club ,Activity Centre with Cafe and toilets .
This is where all the Visitors come to take in the Beautiful view of Rudyard Lake .
Sat for a while to take It all In .
Then over the bridge of the Dam to the trail back to the Old disused Railway line to the Steam Rail Station to finish .

My second walk on the Staffordshire way.
In lovely Spring like weather 13C Sunshine

Started at the Northern end of Rudyard Lake
Headed North on the Old Disused railway line .

bypassing the village of Rushton Spencer after Wallhill came to
Where 3 trails meet Gritstone trail, Dane Valley Way and Staffordshire way .

Here turning West followed the trail uphill through rough open land alongside the meandering river Dane .
Underfoot conditions very muddy and boggy
I had my gaiters on so I was Ok.

Onwards up to Ravens clough through farm land and out onto a lane .

Here the Dane Valley Way goes  away North

Carried on uphill to come out into Peover lane turned left and sharp right up a switch back track past Hillside Farm the trail takes a steep incline up to Bosley Clod 343 metres

Here with Panoramic views of  Congleton Edge , Croker hill and Mow Kop.

Wandered around the Cloud Plantation and a track into Gosberryhole lane.
 to The Bridestones ,
out onto Cloud Side to pickup  the same trail and route back to Rudyard Lake .
