Got up close with this little fella on yesterday's dog walk. Managed to keep Tess's snapping jaws under control, thankfully!  :o

When I say close, I mean really close - probably about 30cm away at most - I had to as I was using my phone camera. A remarkably unafraid little vole.

Lovely pic Richard - they can be very unaffected can't they?  I had one walk over my foot in Wet Sleddale on my first walk in the lakes after Lockdown 1.

A few years ago they were common on the Cromford Canal at High Peak Junction where the young would run around your feet at the picnic tables, always a few cameras around. Then the Derbyshire WT decided to put a  canal boat on so that people didn't have to walk for 15/20 minutes from Cromford to H.Peak. I've not seen a Vole since, they call it progress.

Snook up on this Water Vole with it's baby, quietly watched for a while before I was discovered!

Thanks for the comments pdstsp, Dovegirl, Dodgylegs - it was unbelievably cute.

It has been many years since I have seen a water vole, probably 30 or so.

Thanks, it was. Quite magical. The little beast was nibbling away at something held in its forepaws, quite unconcerned by my presence.
