My last holiday was in the Strands at Nether Wasdale, back at the beginning of last October. I've stayed there a number of times. I can't actually remember having pie (though I must have done, pie being my go-to pub meal). My favourite meal there (sorry for the squeamish) was a stew of Herdwick lambs hearts a few years ago. Anyway, our rooms were in the Strands but the pub wasn't open so everything else took place over the road in the Screes (both owned by the same people). Can't beat a place where they have their own brewery. Mark and Lesley, the owners, are lovely - bonkers but fun. David Powell-Thompson works part-time behind the bar, though he was working in Greece while we were there.
