Steverossi, it counts as having done the route when you do it in sections, but obviously not as a 'through hike'. Many walkers do it and other routes, a section at a time. All depends on how you want to do it and have the time to do it.

I met a couple who were doing the Pennine way in stages; they left the car somewhere where the trail crossed a road, walked as far as they felt like, then walked back to the car, I think by the same route.  They were not that far from the end, and I reckon if they finish they will have done the trail twice.  I'm not sure how they were going to tackle the Cheviot Ridge though.
Doing it as a series of circular walks sounds interesting.

Its just a year ago today that I finished my Pennine Way hike.
I’m doing Ok with my AF ( Atrial Fibrillation ) doing longer day walks now. Whether I’ll be able to do 20 mile days back to back again I don’t know but I’m thinking positive.

The next time it will have to be The Pennine Way for the over 70’s.

Good luck to you all on this years long distance walk.

Vinny

That is excellent news, Vinny. Good luck with the walking - we will look forward to your starting that 'PW for the over 70s' thread in due course!

Well done Vinny. Keep at it.
Heading off to "Baltic" Minehead on Saturday to start my stroll to Penzance the next day. Nice choice of weather. It was probably warmer on Cross Fell last year! :D

I went to the pub last night and had four pints. I got home at 10.00 and in a 'mad' moment decided to hike and camp The Pennine Way again! I last did it in 2011.

I went online and saw a fare from Portsmouth to Edinburgh for £32. I couldn't resist it!

I'm starting from Kirk Yetholme on May 25th and hope to stagger into Edale about 18 - 20 days later.

Anyone else planning to hike the route at this time?

Thankyou. I've just watched Julia Bradbury's 'Walks with a View' about High Cup Nick. Nice to see Dufton on screen, inside the local pub (been there) and the route up to the top. She manage to do it on a fairly sunny day.

I haven't decided on my summer walk yet, other things might take priority but maybe doing this again is a possibility mainly due to less time to plan after doing it before.

I planned to start to hike the Pennine Way early in the morning of 25th May 2016. Change of plan, I will now start early in the morning on 26th May 2016. My son and his girlfriend live in Edinburgh and they think they need to feed me before I set off!

I last hiked the Pennine Way North to South in 2011 and since then I have always tried to hike a new route. I'm hoping that, because I now know where I'm going, I may get a different kind of hiking experience? I am going to try to seek out new pubs and eating places on route and visit some old haunts as well. Tan Hill pub springs to mind.

I use a rain skirt these days rather than waterproof trousers and I hope I have now overcome its main weakness, the material flaps about in the wind and if its really raining hard at the same time I get wet knees. I plan to use the rain skirt in light rain, with my Marmot Precip, but if I have heavy rain I will use my Vaud Poncho on top. The Vaude Poncho also flaps about in wind so one of my wife's friends has sown a continous weighted hemline to it. I hope that this will solve this products design fault as well?

I am very hopeful about my Osprey Exos 48L, I have tried it out already on the Dales Way and it proved to be supremly comfortable, I hope it performs as well over a longer period?

Good luck, we start on 22 June, so you'll be finished by the time we start from Edale.  Be good to hear how you get on
