The summit is in Cumbria, but the boundary crosses the fell, so the SSE flank is in N Yorks.

According to the signs in Birkdale, the SSE flank is in Richmondshire, wherever that is.  :)

Next thing you know they will be reclaiming Mickle Fell as the highest place in Yorkshire

Richmondshire is in Yorkshire. The feature you mention (which I took to be the Three men of Gragerth) is in the Yorkshire Dales and in the West Riding.

There are 9 "Three Men of Gragareth" too ninthace ... or rather, 9 cairns in the area marked "Three Men...."

(and one other one hidden out of view)

....and this pic has convinced me it's not the 3MoG on the vid. :)

I take your word for it Mel, must be the fog.  I have looked at them on Google Images, the Three Men themselves are closer together and dare I say it, less imposing than the images in the video.  The Nine Standards  stand in a clear separated line with open ground between them.  The Three Men remind me of the line of cairns on the edge of Wild Boar Fell at High White Scar.  I wonder if they serve the same purpose?

About 2 years ago I ploughed through a learned treatise about why or when the Nine Standards were built .  The author's conclusion - nobody knows!

Edit: Just seen your picture on the other thread.  See what you mean but not exactly 9 in a row are they? :)
