. All we can do is educate event organisers and participants so as to do it in a way that doesn't adversely impact these areas. And to be fair a lot of event organisers are now getting on board with this.
Good luck with that !

Some good posts against attempting the ''3 peaks challenge'' nonsense.

Just don't do it for all sorts of reasons.

The National 3 Peaks is now viewed as a very contentious challenge, which only causes disturbance and disruption to the locals.  So my personal advice would be NOT to do attempt to do it at all, and do something else entirely different.

However, if you must do it, then why not do it in three days rather than the mad rush of 24 hours.

Here's some interesting and informative links on the subject:

Edited:   As forgot to add this link, which gives you a clear insight on the impact of the Three Peaks challenge:

Personally, I would sponsor someone NOT to do this event.

Spot on.  O0

It's basically a monumental driving and parking challenge with a bit of walking. Each of the unfortunate mountains and their surrounds deserve more respect.

OK, I'm in.

Ok.   Which charity are you NOT doing it for?     ;)

I did it in 2010 as a charity thing with work. At the time it struck me as a silly "challenge" because it was obviously so dependent on the driving.

The thing is, I enjoyed the walking so much (particularly Scafell Pike from Seathwaite) I got hooked and now walking is an important part of my life.

But it's still a silly challenge.

A better idea is to do it via public transport - it has been done in under 24 hrs - now that really is a challenge!
