Nant Peris - Pen y Pass advice
« on: 13:23:43, 27/05/15 »
Greetings all.

Popping over to lovely Snowdonia at the weekend. :)

Rather than drive up to and park at the Pen y Pass for a wallet busting £10 (if one can find a space!), i thought we'd park at the Nant Peris car park (park and ride?) down the ride and get the bus up.

Done a bit of googling and it appears there's still a bus service for this route.

10/40 past the hour, start at 810am up to PYP.

Anyone have recent experience of this?  How big is the car park at Nant Peris?  Does the bus fill up early?  Do you pay per person/car?  Exact change needed?  etc etc.

Staying 30 odd miles away on the Friday night so hoping to get down to the pass at circa 8/9am given the 6-8 hr walk that lies ahead.

Thoughts/comments appreciated O0

I've used the servicebefore, with the previous bus company.

My recent research shows that it is £1.50. The car park is a decent size. There is a car parking fee, (I think) In the olden days (sic) they used to put on a double decker.

Get there early 8 - 9 oclock and I don't think that you'll have a problem.

Enjoy - all of the other car parks have a parking fee.

Escape the crowds go up the Snowdon ranger or Ryth du!

£5! :o

I thought it was a park and ride, one price all in thing.

£5 + 2 x bus fares there and back = might as well park at PYP ;D

The buses are £1.50 per journey per person plus parking fees as for the bus from Capel comes through about 9.17 you could park in one of the many layby's near the pen y gwrd for £4 for the day and its about 15 mins walk to pen y pass i was up crib goch last week it was very busy didn't bother with the Snowdon summit even busier dropped down pyg/miners after ugain then went up the gribin and over lliwedd better than the horseshoe route imo have fun

Cheers for the info 75.  By the sounds of it, it's £10 no matter what.  Unless we park a mile down the road for free (have done the last couple of times but it's a slog up the road to the PYP).

Have not tried the opposite side (away from Snowdon) yet.  From memory. last time we approached, the lay bys seemed a fair distance from the pass.

Cheers Mark, will do. O0

Then back to Wales next weekend too.  Then twice more in July.

Be like a second home by the end of the year ;D

I rather like the 'other' horseshoe, especially at weekends .... up the south ridge, down the Watkin path.  Certainly fewer people.

I used to work for the firm that ran the pen y pass buses, and the timetables are now in a state of flux. If you go to the other end of Llanberis there is quiet a big car park on the lake bank, and last time I went it was free. Most of the buses to pen y pass run through the interchange near the Victoria hotel opposite the mountain railway station. I would recomend checking bus timetables as near to the times you go as possible.
