(TR) Derwent Edge
« on: 22:44:02, 30/08/15 »
I like Derwent Edge, lots of different routes up and once you gain the ridge, you can just hop skip and jump your way along the nice stone pavement and enjoy the views. After enjoying a pre walk industrial strength coffee(makes the legs extra springy I find), I set off along the side of Derwent Reservoir. It was perfect walking weather-blue sky with fluffy white clouds and this coupled with the caffeine hit saw me feeling extremely jolly. Decided to go upwards through the peculiarly named Shireowlers south plantation. I won't lie, it was incredibly steep and before long my "steep path tourettes" kicked in. Luckily there was no one around to hear me effing and jeffing my way up.

Just when you think you're nearly there you're faced with more steepness, so I just dug my heels in and effed and jeffed my way up to Lost Lad.
I sat and had myself a little picnic, then spent a thoroughly delightful few miles  hop, skipping and jumping across the yellow brick road. Plenty of weird and wonderful rock formations along the way. Spent so long taking photographs and enjoying myself that I realised it wasn't that long until dusk, and so headed down into what should have been called "giant man eating fern plantation". At one point they were taller than me and I started imagining all the wild beasts that might be lurking, and got that freaked out I broke the world record for fastest downhill sprint. All that remained then was to make my way around Ladybower and back to the car in the setting sunshine...lovely :)

Very nice.  Did practically the same walk today.  Half the peaks seem to be bathed in purple heather at the moment.
If they don't like you going out, they'll love you coming in!

Lovely photos Dizzy.  A beautiful area and one of the best times of the year to be up there.
