Happy Valley Horseshoe
« on: 20:17:16, 19/06/16 »
Yesterday's walk took in two of the Mourne seven sevens, Meelmore and Meelbeg. Meelbeg is the 5th highest in the range and Meelmore the 7th highest. The route was circular taking 2.75 hours to complete. The forecast was good. I completed the horseshoe in a clockwise manner starting on Meelmore. I ascended Meelmore on a 'off the beaten track' route, climbing over much pathless terrain. The best views were retrospective on the ascent; these included Slieve Croob and the Dromara hills. Upon reaching the summit of Meelmore views extended to the eastern Mournes including Donard, Commedagh, Lamagan and Binnian. After a short break for photos, I followed the Mourne wall to Meelbeg. The view was extended to Slieveloughshannagh, Carn and Muck. Upon descending Meelbeg, Fofanny reservoir came into view as well as a retrospective view of the Happy Valley.
