Going Luney
« on: 10:43:50, 02/08/16 »
On Sunday I FINALLY made it to the Lune valley, Lancashire, after wanting to walk there all year. On my map there is a nice looking stretch called the Lune valley ramble by the Lune, so I parked at Arkholme and walked down to the river before going North.

quickly finding the usual quota of flowers

farmland was a funny place for a pond, there was even a swan on it.

at this point some running repairs were required, having stopped en route for an alfresco toilet stop, I had managed to get damp toes in my trainers from squelching in a field behind a drystone wall.........took damp socks off and left em under windscreen on top of dashboard to dry.........had put dry ones on from rucksack, unfortunately they had massive great holes in the heel..............I soon got blistered heels.........so resorted to folding my hankie inside my sock to give some protection. :-[ :-[ :-[
Struggling on by the lovely riverside, soon came to a drunken bridge..............

would have been a long detour so I managed to cross by balancing on the top of the handrail and edging across like summat from an Indiana Jones film.............. :D

there were lots of sand martins on this walk, flying around the river bank.

but they don't really show on camera.
Walked past some hairy corn that seemed to b e growing whiskers

getting near Kirby Lonsdale way, there were more obstacles.....

the path is now up this scramble!

mint?

Monkeyflower

soon went into the town, nice little place, there was a café selling ice cream, so got a double, with raspberry ripple, and blackcurrant scoops. O0
Had a look round town....came back....went to other ice cream parlour (Hollies) and had another double, wild cherry and peach melba flavours
well I have to eat, don't I?  :-[
Then twas all the way back to Arkholme, seeing a Kingfisher en route, and a huge fish that leapt right out the river!!!! Salmon? Trout?
Maybe 10 miles for this walk? Lovely place................as ever my TR seems to take ages, get interrupted (damn mobiles), and not do it justice..........but it really is nice round there! Hopefully will get to do another walk that way soon........... O0

Good TR pleb with some nice pics as usual.  Looks like the path needs a bit of maintenance in places.  Is this one of the areas that is now included in the Yorkshire Dales National Park extended boundary?

Not sure, doubt it as its Lancashire. Might be in the Forest of Bowland? Which is an AofONB

Great photos pleb (except the sock !). Great skyscapes too.
Tis a grand area indeed. I haven't ever walked over there but used to cut across on my way to Carnforth (by car).
Only a hill but all of life to me, up there between the sunset and the sea.

Lovely pictures, not an area I know at all.

Shame there was no picture of your Indiana Jones exploits.

Would have been difficult..................there were 2 other bods n a dog crossed it, thought about trying to snap them but that might have been a bit rude!
