It's amazing what the moorland restoration project has achieved on Black Hill. When you look at pictures of how it used to look around the summit area you'd hardly believe it's the same place.


It looks like something along those lines might be happening with Brown Knoll too, as they have laid quite lot of flagged path around there too.

I can only paraphrase something I think I read in a TR report via this forum. The flagstones were not put in to help the walkers but to protect the Fells.  What a great job they have done here. Great TR & lovely photos.

There has been a lot of work done to restore the peat bogs of the Peak District. Though I have fond memories of bog laden moors, scared by industry and pollution, it really is very pleasant to see the peat moors being returned to what they should be, not barren areas of peat soil, but green flourishing vegetation enabling nature to thrive as it should do.
